The Sunday Creative ~ Prompt 6

Madeline certainly likes to give us a challenge with her 'The Sunday Creative' prompts. This week we have the word

SHAPELY

and here's my take on the word
My new 2-in-1 Torch and Lamp on its magnetic stand

The Sunday Creative ~ Prompt 5

Only just in time, here's my take on this week's word for

NAKED

My wardrobe doors hiding the clothes that stop the world from seeing me naked.
Perish the thought!!

The Sunday Creative ~ Prompt 4

Week 4's prompt of

TRADITIONAL

at Madeline's The Sunday Creative had me stumped (yet again!). As I was plating my dinner tonight, I realised that; apart from the burger being vegetarian, I was having a traditional meal of burger, salad, fried onions and chips. So, in all its glory, here it is:

The Sunday Creative ~ Prompt 3

This week's prompt over at Madeline's 'The Sunday Creative' was:

CONNECT

So, what do I photograph, that is the question? As I sit here with my feet up due to a leg infection, feeling cut off from the world I look at my computer and get a eureka moment. All my family and friends can be connected via 6 things: Facebook, E-mail, UKScrappers, Phone calls, Texts and (the one I didn't photograph) Blogging. Here's my photograph anyway:

The Sunday Creative ~ Prompt 2

It's Sunday and time for the second prompt by Madeline for her weekly challenge

This week's word is DENIM

Usually, I leave challenges until the last minute, but this time I had inspiration as soon as I read the word. I have a denim skirt that although it's a few years old, is still one of my favourites. It's kept well over the years too, probably because I haven't worn it much (really must de-fuzz my legs more and wear it!). I just love the tie detail on the back which is the main reason I bought it and also why I've chosen that bit to show you.

The Sunday Creative ~ Prompt 1

Hey guys and gals, the wonderful Madeline Bea is kindly giving us all a free weekly challenge to continue unleashing the creative side of us. Prompts will be given each Sunday and we have that week to do something and link to it on her blog. You can find out more by using The Sunday Creative link on the left of her blog.

The first word prompt; last Sunday, was OPEN.

I had thought of opening your heart and preparing for it to be broken, but couldn't work out how to portray that to the world.

So, today I gave up with that and went with a view of the outside world from an OPEN window.
I've edited the photo to make it sepia as well as applying a couple of different framing effects and such using Picnik (an on-line photo editing programme). Next time I'll make note of what I did.

Once I'd taken that photograph, my brain kicked in and I got crafting.
Here's the result of my original thought

I cut the broken heart on my CraftROBO and coloured it using red chalk ink. A few blooms and buttons and it was finished. The tiny hearts were cut using a punch.
The frame was added, once again using Picnik

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 13

Well, it was the last day on Creativity Boot Camp yesterday and the only day that I didn't get a photograph for the word prompt. Instead, I took my photograph today whilst travelling from Mum's. Before you tell me off for taking pictures while driving, I was in the back seat as a passenger and this photograph was taken as we were driving along with my window open and in the drizzling rain.

So, what was the last word prompt we were given? "SMILE" It wasn't until we were driving away from Mum's that I found myself smiling at the thought that I'd been brought up 4 miles from the nearest town and shop, surrounded by fields and growing crops, safe in the knowledge that as children we could play outside without fear of harm from anyone and a place where everyone knew everyone else. We were lucky in that the playing field with swings, slide and (at that time) big cement pipes to climb on and in was at the back of our house, so we didn't even have to cross a road to get there and could be seen from our garden. We never realised how lucky we were, but I know it now and I smile being thankful for that opportunity that my parents took to take us there when I was 8. Yes, sometimes it was hard as there wasn't a local shop, there was one bus a week on a Thursday to take you to the market and bring you home less than 4 hours later and it wasn't easy seeing your friends from secondary school as they lived in other villages. But, looking back on it, the good outweighed the bad. Mum and Dad never had to worry about where we were, what we were getting up to and if we were safe. How many people can say that about children nowadays? Even in tiny villages like the one I was brought up in, there's always the danger that something may happen. People don't mix like they used to and don't always know who's living on their doorstep. I know my mum doesn't know everyone like she used to. Such a shame that communities are fast dying.

Nearly forgot amidst my rambling, here's my photo:

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 12's Journalling

Creativity Boot Camp's Day 12 ~ The penultimate day for our journalling. We were encouraged to look at our dreams today and here's my look at mine:

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 11's Journalling

Creativity Boot Camp and Day 11 we were asked to map out a brief timeline of our life and then look back over it to see how each event led us to where we are now. Here's my journalling (sorry there's so much of it)

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 10's Journalling

Better late than never, here's my journalling for Creativity Boot Camp's Day 10. We were encouraged to look at our senses. An easy one for me as it turns out.

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 12

Well, the penultimate day for the Creativity Boot Camp has arrived and I've not done bad (even if I do say so myself). I've managed to complete the word prompts every day and today is no exception. Today's word is "SMOOTH" which makes me think of silky smooth legs on show in the glorious sun. As my legs haven't seen the sun this year yet, I had to think outside that box and here's the result:

Hair remover which I really should be using on my legs, not spilling onto a sheet of paper!

Creativity Boot Camp Day 11

Today's word is "HUSH" and this was easy today. No matter how much noise is being made before hand, a quiet hush descends on the place once my cousin's granddaughter is given her cake to eat.

Creativity Boot Camp Day 10

Today's inspiration on Creativity Boot Camp was the phrase "FULL BODIED". I had no idea what to do for this. I could have photographed some red wine, but as I don't drink it, that wasn't going to happen. So, what to do, what to do ..... . Sitting down to my dinner tonight, I realised that I was getting full and I had hardly started eating. Quick, grab the camera and take a photo of what was making me "Full Bodied". I will apologise now for how my plate looks. If I'd known I was going to be photographing it, I would have plated it up for the camera, not just so it could be eaten. At least it shows I do occasionally cook myself a meal!!

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 9 Part 2

Today's word prompt is "DRIZZLE". I pondered this for a while, but then thought of oil drizzling into a pan, so here's my photograph

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 9 Part 1

This week-end's journalling on Creativity Boot Camp was interesting and one that I hope to do again when it feels like my mind is too full. Emptying is a great way of cleaning out all the thoughts that bog us down.

On to today's journalling (or not as the case is). We were asked "to create in a way that you haven't for years". I haven't sketched in many years and kept intending to, so today was a good time to get out those pens and my watercolour pad and get sketching. I used to sketch photos of people (pop stars mainly) when I was in my teens, so went back to that. But instead of sketching a singer, I chose to sketch Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter. I've realised that I'm rather rusty at this, so the only way to change that is to keep my pad and pens handy and do more of it. No, you won't see heaps of Mad Hatters on here as I only sketch something once. Right, enough waffling, here's my sketch.

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 8

Creativity Boot Camp's journalling is the same as yesterday's. Do 45 minutes (3 pages) of writing to 'empty your mind' then throw it away.

Day 8's word to be inspired by is "ORMANENT". This was a tough one for me as I don't have many ornaments (too much dusting!! LOL). As I headed off to bed last night, I caught sight of the ornament my niece bought me and my ex many years ago and realised that this would be perfect for the challenge.

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 7

Creativity Boot Camp's word for day 7 is "FLY". I tried taking photos of a couple of flies in my room, but they wouldn't stay still enough. Instead of that, here's a photo of some currant biscuits I made yesterday, known to some as 'dead fly biscuits'.

There will be no journalling to show you this week-end. We've been encouraged to sit and write for 45 minutes each day. To quote Maegan "If you are familiar with the book The Artist's Way, Julia Cameron refers to this sort of writing as "morning pages" encouraging all creative spirits to write three full tablet pages first thing each morning. Now the premise of these writings is that you just write...no thinking, no analyzing, no judging...just writing. The idea is just to write whatever comes into your mind: from your mind to papet, bypassing your own filters. In essence, it's an emptying." After we've done our writing, we're to throw it away and never look at it again. Sounds rather interesting doesn't it?

Creativity Boot Camp Day 6's Journalling

Creativity Boot Camp's journalling for Day 6 was to look at our own 'rules' of creativity

Creativity Boot Camp Day 5's Journalling and Day 6's Word Prompt

A little behind, for Creativity Boot Camp's Day 5 journalling prompt, but here none the less. We were urged to play songs from the past and write about our thought and feelings of that time. Here's mine

The word prompt for today (Day 6) was 'FLUID'
Here's my photo

As you can see, I wrote the title wrong on the photo and put flowing instead of fluid. Oops!! I used the 'flow water' setting on my camera which is most probably what I had in mind when I wrote 'flowing'.

Creativity Boot Camp Day 5

I've managed my photograph for Creativity Boot Camp's word prompt which is 'GROW'.

My interpretation of it is to use part of the cover of a mini-album I'm making to put photos of my new flat in before all my stuff was moved in. I've interpreted the 'GROW' to be me growing in strength since moving here. The word on the embroidered tag says home

Creativity Boot Camp Day 4

I've not done so well with a couple of today's prompts / thoughts / assignments (whatever you wish to call them) for the Creativity Boot Camp. We were encouraged to go outside and take some random shots without using special settings on our cameras and then to look at the photos to see what motivated us to take the particular pictures and think about what we'd do different if we took the shots again. Would we frame the subject differently capturing only the part of the item that drew us in? Would we do something else? As I didn't get to do this today, I'm aiming to do it tomorrow. Let's hope I manage it.

I did manage today's random word prompt which was 'HEAVY METAL'

Here's part of my cooker.

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 3 (Both parts!)

So far, so good. I'm keeping up with Creativity Boot Camp at the moment and hope to continue to do so. Taking my laptop to my sister's tonight so that I can check in tomorrow too.

Here's my interpretation of today's random word "MULTILAYER"

If you're wondering what it is in the photograph, they are throws at the end of my bed.

Today's journalling prompt was Creative Buzz Kills. Wondering what that is? Have a look for yourself and see. Here's my journalling:

Award Time

Stephanie, a fellow Creativity Boot Camp camper, has very kindly given me an award and here it is (Thanks heaps Stephanie)

Now, part of the award is that the recipient share 10 things that others may not know about him/her. So, here's 10 things you may not know about me:

1) I'm not very good at completing or continuing projects I start. Be that unpacking boxes from moving, crafty things, healthy eating or exercise. Yep, I start and fail way too many times.
2) I've not long moved into my own place and am living on my own for the first time in about 20 years.
3) I have a weakness for nail varnish. If I see a colour I like, I just have to have it.
4) I'm pretty good at remembering numbers ~ for telephones, internet banking, PINs
5) I'm not good at remembering names though. If I meet you, don't expect me to remember your name next time, but if you talk to me on the phone, I'll remember so much more about you. I had to be good at this when I worked on taxi switchboards.
6) I'm good at making 'to do' lists, but once again I'm useless at completing every project.
7) I may do paper crafting, but I don't very often enjoy making cards now, I much prefer scrapbooking.
8) I'm even worse for getting cards made and in the post or handed to the recipient on time. Apologies if you're reading this and wondered where your card got to.
9) I have a scar on the top of my left arm. I pulled a tea-pot full of freshly made tea over me when I was about 2 or 3. Thankfully that's the only scar I got.
10) I love photography, but still haven't learnt how to use all the different settings on my camera. I'd love a better camera, but as I can't afford one, doing the Creativity Boot Camp using photography will encourage me to get to know my camera and love what I have.

Well, there you have 10 facts about me. Hope you managed to stay awake through them. I'm supposed to pass this on to 10 of you, but how on earth do you decide who to leave out? So, as you've spent time to come over to my blog and read my post, please take the award with my thanks.

Love and hugs, Sarah C xx

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 2 Part 2

At Creativity Boot Camp today, we were also encouraged to look at ourselves as not just crafters, photographers and such, but as artists. Here's my take on this thought:

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 2

Today's word is "PICNIC"

Here's my interpretation of it:

My lunch sometimes resembles picnics we had as children. Cheese and tomato sandwiches and savoury eggs. Only difference now, is that my eggs are covered in a vegetarian alternative to meat.

Creativity Boot Camp ~ Day 1

Creativity Boot Camp DAY 1 (started yesterday 6th June) ~ We were asked to write ourselves a letter and not re-read it until the end of the boot camp. Also, every day we'll be given a random word to prompt us inn our chosen medium.

Day 1's word was "IVORY"

I decided to use photography as my medium. I'm hoping to get to know my camera better and take it off the auto setting. Here's my interpretation of the word:

When the sunlight streams in, my hallways looks more ivory than the cream/magnolia it really is.

Creativity Boot Camp

Well, I'm not doing so good at keeping up with 52 in 10 am I? I have 'sort of' done weeks 1 - 19, just need to add some photos and finishing touches to some of the pages. Must get my printer installed so I can do that.

So, why am I here? Because I've heard of another project that's free to join. Creativity Boot Camp. It's a two-week on-line project and to quote Maegan "I have designed this e-course for people who wish to take the next step in their creative lives. Whether you need a creative boost, need the motivation to begin that larger creative project, or simply wish to lead a more creative life, the exercises provided in this course will help pave the way for maximum creativity in your life."

Why not take a look for yourself and see about joining in too? Click here to find out more.

52 in 10 ~ Cover to Prompt 10

Ok, so you have a few minutes to spare and don't know what to do with them? Here's something for you to look at.

I've been busy this week and finally started Scrapdolly's 52 in 10 project. This week, I've managed to do not only the covers, but the first 10 LOs which means I'm up-to-date and ready for the 11th prompt on Sunday. The back cover is a mirror image of the front, but without the embellishments (just the red ribbon covering the paper join). I'm doing this as an 8x8 album which will be bound using my Bind-It-All and brown wires.

COVER
the little girl is delectable stamp from Charmed Cards and Crafts
which I've stamped onto shrink plastic.
The back cover is a mirror image of the papers and red ribbon.

PROMPT 1
Look back over the last 20 years
(I still have to find photos to put in the spaces)

PROMPT 2
Goals and aims

PROMPT 3
If I knew then

PROMPT 4
Music that rocks my world
(I have put a CD sleeve to house a CD of my favourite music)

PROMPT 5
Family

PROMPT 6
Looks familiar

PROMPT 7
Family traditons
Dolly also gave us a sketch to use if we wanted, but I had already stuck the papers down

PROMPT 8
Role Models
(I hope Eileen doesn't mind me taking her photo from Facebook)
I've used the sketch we were given in prompt 7,
but turned my photos to fit

PROMPT 9
My friends
we were also challenged to do some stamping.
I stamped the words 'friends' and 'fun' which didn't stamp clearly, so I coloured them with a pen.

PROMPT 10
A special friend

Thanks for looking. Take care, love and hugs, Sarah xoxoxo
